come on Matt! I'm the one that always gives the logical answers!!! Now I have to give a completely outrageous answer!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I say it's because the writers got drunk one night while writing it and said, "We should just make the movie long to piss off all the Lord of the Rings fans." and they went to the director who was equally drunk and gave him their idea and he said, "Cool! Make it so!" Then the wrote it but Batman swooped down and snatched it and said, "Now you can't publish this travesty!" And they said, " We all know you're Bruce Wayne." And Batman said, "No, I'm Adam We." They said, "Don't you mean Adam West?" And he said, "No, I can't find the rest of my lite-brite set." And they made a deal with him where they got to make the movie and he got an expenses-paid trip to Arkam Asylum for the Criminally insane.
