2) Why would the Death Star blow up the AT-ATs? They're both Imperial.

How could a AT-AT destroy battle droids. When the Galactic Empire was formed all of the battle droids shut down pemanantly. Therefore it is even more imposible for an AT-AT to destroy battle droids.
